AttachedEmitter
Particle's property. Attaches another emitter from the same effect to each particle of the current emitter.
The attached emitter will follow the particle it is attached to. You cannot attach an emitter to itself or attach a reflection of the current emitter.
If the attached emitter has Emitter Properties (CustomProperty blocks), they will appear as additional inputs on this block, allowing you to pass values from the parent particle to the child emitter.
The passed values are written to the child emitter when the parent particle spawns and then again on every frame, so a value that changes over time (a graph, a random, the parent particle's position or velocity) keeps feeding the child continuously. In the Emitter Guide's Attached Emitters section, each parameter value row has the standard OnInit toggle: when enabled, the value is evaluated once at the parent particle's spawn, stored on the particle, and that frozen value is what the child receives afterwards. Random and graph sources store on init automatically — each parent particle passes its own stable value instead of one that re-rolls every frame.
A parameter can also carry the parent particle's own look: its value type menu offers EG: Size, EG: Color, EG: Transparency and the other outputs of the parent's sections. Combined with On terminate, the child receives the size or color the parent had when it died and can continue from there without a visible jump (on GPU33 the value comes from the parent's last frame alive, up to one frame earlier). With OnInit enabled it receives the values the parent had at its spawn instead. See Value types in the Emitter Guide for when these entries are offered. Turn off Standalone on the child emitter (its property in the Properties panel) — otherwise, besides the copies spawned at each parent particle's death, the child also runs on its own at the effect's root with the parameters' default values. To hand over the orientation as well, give the child a rotation property: set its Self Rotation to an Emitter property (on an R value it is a quaternion, edited as an axis and an angle), set the child's Rotation to Self, and in the parent set that parameter to EG: Rotation — the child's particles then start turned like the parent particle was when it died.
When a parameter first appears in the Attached Emitters section (when you attach an emitter, or when the attached emitter gains a new property), its value row starts at the value that property currently has in the attached emitter, rather than at zero — so the child behaves the same as on its own until you deliberately change something. This only affects a parameter the first time it appears; a value you have already edited is never overwritten. Properties driven by an expression, and rotation (quaternion) properties, start at their neutral default instead.
Properties & inputs:
- Connected emitter (property): The emitter to attach to each particle.
- On terminate (property): When enabled, the attached emitter activates only when the parent particle is terminated. Useful for explosion or death effects. The parent particle is considered fully terminated only when all its attached emitters have no remaining particles.
- Draw order (property): Specifies the rendering order of the attached emitter's particles relative to the parent emitter.
